This week is Nutritional and Hydration Week so in this blog post we look at the importance of hydration. Many of the toys we have for sale at Epic Play are outdoor and active toys, that encourage children to exercise during play, so when using these toys, staying hydrated is important.
It’s easy to underestimate the importance of water but water is the most critical nutrient for health, growth and development. For general health overall, staying properly hydrated leads to better skin, healthier bones and teeth, healthier joins and an improved digestive system.
When exercising or taking part in active play, staying hydrated reduces fatigue, so children do not become lethargic and are less likely to experience cramps or a drop in endurance. Drinking water also helps improve the circulation and regulates the body’s cooling system.
When playing outside, through the heat of the sun and increased exercise, children lose a lot of water through sweat. It is vital that the water is replenished. By the time we are thirsty, our bodies are already dehydrated, so it is worth taking regular water breaks at regular intervals.
