We are delighted to continue our partnership with UK’s number 1 Balance Bike experts – Kiddimoto. Kiddimoto is the original balance bike company. They appeared on TV’s Dragons Den to showcase their invention in 2011.
We love the freedom and confidence that a balance bike provides your children. They encourage your child to develop strength and balance by walking, running and freewheeling. Learning to balance before learning to pedal makes the transition to a bike with pedals (and no stabilisers) much easier.
Balance bikes are small enough that your child can walk the bicycle while sitting comfortably in the saddle, putting both feet flat on the ground. The rider first walks the bicycle while standing over the saddle, then while sitting in the saddle. Eventually, your child feels comfortable enough to run and “scoot” while riding the bicycle, then to lift both feet off the ground and cruise while balancing on the two wheels.
As British cycling legend Chris Hoy says:
“I have always been a big believer in the fact that stabilisers aren’t a good thing for kids because they don’t learn how to balance, they learn how to lean to one side. A balance bike teaches that important part of learning how to ride. Kids feel safe too because all they have to do is put their feet down.”
Balance bikes let your child learn naturally by helping them experiment with balance and riding techniques all on their own. Children are fast learners and find out quickly how the bike can be moved and steered. When pushed briefly, children instinctively learn how to reproduce this movement independently soon afterwards. The Kiddimoto balance bike helps develop a child’s sense of balance and stimulates their physical and mental development, improving their coordination.
From balance bike to pedal bike
Learning to ride a bike is a rite or passage and our children will remember the day they learned to balance on their balance bikes.
Here at Epic Play we have a full range of balance bikes for children aged 18 months to 6 years. All of our bikes are lightweight and so much fun.
